Fall is here. There is a slight chill in the air. In most places around the country panoramic views are bursting with golds and reds and oranges. The ultimate sign that autumn has arrived? Pumpkin everything is in full effect.
Pumpkin is one of the most celebrated foods -- grocery store end caps lure us in with all the pumpkiney goodness they can push. Breads. Pastas. Sauces. Soups. Desserts. Pie, pie and more pie.
I LOVE it all. Even the color pumpkin and all of its beautifully bronzed cousins take over in the clothing stores. Pumpkin sweaters and butternut dresses bring out the best in women of ALL shades. There's no denying it -- for these months in between Labor Day and Thanksgiving pumpkin permeates and pulsates through us all and I am here for every last minute of it!
In 2006, I had the pleasure of living in Brisbane, Australia for six weeks. Now it's known as the birthplace of my love for pumpkin! They had it everywhere and I ate it all up. Even on pizza, long before the likes of CPK had it on their menu. My colleagues in the office nicknamed me "Pumpkin" that's how much I was rollin'...
My personal favorites? Pumpkin Bread. I am not much for the flavored drinks and all that, but give me some pumpkin baked goods and you got me. Next up: Pumpkin Filled Pasta. Whether it's ravioli or gnocchi or roasted pumpkin with angel hair - toss it into some brown sugar, butter and sage sauce (maybe a little splash of orange juice) and let the good eats begin!!
We took the liberty of looking up some great sounding pumpkin recipes to try out this season. Break out the canned pumpkin or go for the real thing. Add your extra special spice. Let us know how you do and what YOUR favorite way is to celebrate the GREAT PUMPKIN!
